International Human Rights Day 2009
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights was established in 2006 with the aim
of providing better response to those affected by disasters and to promote human rights among
the Sri Lankan community. Under the guidance of the President Mahinda Rajapakse the Ministry
has implemented its programmes under the leadership of Minister Mahinda Samarasingha.
An event to commemorate the International Human Rights Day 2009 has been organized by the
Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights on:

Gemidiriya, through its work on community development and livelihood improvement, focuses on empowering rural communities to form, strengthen and maintain an institutional mechanism leading to self-determination, planning, resource mobilization, and implementation.
